Jay and Kingfisher

I've recently spent a couple of mornings in Roy Rimmer's "Jay" Hide near Chorley. Meeting at Roy's house I then followed him to a private site where he has a small hide overlooking a feeding station that is attractive to Jays. The hide is next to a small pond in the middle of a field, so smaller birds, such as finches and tits do not come to the hide. Small amounts of peanuts and acorns are placed in a couple of pots, one on a post and one behind a branch with beech twigs with leaves fixed to it. There is also a reflection pool for reflection or ground level shots.

My first visit was during the cold snap, so frosty images were obtained, with some squabbling and flight shots. I was well wrapped up with thermals and quilted coat, plus a fleece; I doubt the temperature got about freezing. A week later I revisited with temperatures in high single figures, although the light was not as good. But there was the bonus of a female Kingfisher feeding from the reflection pool.
