The weather forecast for today, Sunday 6 August, was for showers and intermittent sunshine, so it was a "domestic" day. However the rain didn't arrive as predicted and at one point the fennel in the garden was buzzing with hoverflies and other diptera. In a little under 30 minutes I had recorded seven species of hoverfly and several flies. The most impressive of the hoverflies was the Hornet mimic Volucella zonaria, the smallest was Syritta pipiens. The batteries needed recharging on twin flash unit, so I missed several shots.
